Recognizing Women March 2024

wcc 24-03 (1)

This March 8, 2024, Connect and all our Centres will be celebrating International Women’s Day and this year’s campaign is #InspireInclusion. As humans, we all need a sense of belonging and a feeling of empowerment. Regardless of the field, we must call out poor practices and fight against discrimination. Where there is inequity, we must take action. You and I, regardless of gender, can inspire inclusion.

In the words of Gloria Steinem, a world-renowned feminist and activist, “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist, nor to any one organization, but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”

This fight belongs to all of us, and is for all of us.

 It’s Our turn.

International Day of the Elimination of Racial Discrimination – March 21, 2024

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination recognizes that the injustices and prejudices fueled by racial discrimination take place every day. Observed annually on March 21, it commemorates the day police in Sharpeville, South Africa, opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid “pass laws” in 1960. In Canada, this date is an opportunity to reflect on the fact that while progress has been made, Indigenous Peoples, racialized communities, and religious minorities in Canada continue to face racism and discrimination every day. Educate yourself and become part of the movement against racial discrimination.
