Standing Together: From Awareness to Action

As we continue with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we take time to honour the work, resilience, and leadership of those who continue to make Nova Scotia a safer, more equitable place for women and gender-diverse people. From the Lotus Centre’s anniversary—marking over two decades of community strength and support—to global moments like World AIDS Day (Dec 1), Women’s Brain Health Day (Dec 2), the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women (Dec 6), and Human Rights Day (Dec 10), these observances remind us that justice, safety, and dignity are deeply interconnected.

This year, 16 Days of Activism campaign focuses on the alarmingly fast growing world of — digital violence. Online abuse, harassment, and exploitation are forms of gender-based violence that demand urgent attention and coordinated action. In our feature blog, we explore how digital safety intersects with broader social needs like affordable housing, childcare, equitable pay, and access to education — all essential to preventing violence in every form.

Over the coming days, we invite you to follow along as we share stories of resilience, amplify local initiatives, and highlight opportunities to learn, connect, and act. Together, let’s move beyond awareness to create real, lasting change — in our homes, communities, workplaces, and digital spaces alike.
