Recognizing Women April 2024

wcc 24-04 (1)

Women’s health has been acknowledged as an integral component of public health, and addressing women’s unique healthcare needs is crucial for achieving overall community well-being. All nine of the Women’s Centres are a supportive ecosystem for women’s health. Every day, we bring together resources and advocate for collaboration between governments, healthcare providers, and communities. By fostering a safe environment that values women, we break down barriers to access, reduce stigma, and promote holistic health and well-being for women throughout rural Nova Scotia. So during April, join us as we raise awareness around World Health, Denim Day, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and take part in a local StartbyBelieving Campaign.

World Health Day  – April 7, 2024

Denim Day – April 24, 2024

Denim Day 2024 will be held on April 24 in honour of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign has been running for 25 years and began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Join millions of people across the world who will wear jeans with a purpose, support survivors, and educate themselves and others about all forms of sexual violence.
